(THIS POST PROBABLY CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS. OUR FULL DISCLOSURE POLICY IS REALLY BORING, BUT YOU CAN FIND IT HERE.)
Balloon Arch
A classic balloon arch can be an undertaking, but it’s a diy baby shower decoration that really makes a statement (and that statement might just be “I worked really really hard on this baby shower and it’s amazing“).
This rainbow arch with it’s colorful balloons would make a fantastic backdrop for a gifts table!
As I’ve been looking at balloon arches, it really seems to me like the secret to having an AMAZING looking one is to use multiple colors and multiple SIZES of balloons. You’ll want a few really large ones (36″) and smaller balloons, right down to many teeny-tiny 5″ balloons – you’ll also need some fishing line, and some chicken wire.
You can get entire balloon arch kits on Amazon, to make the hunting down of all the supplies much easier!
Balloon Crescent
Very similar to an arch, but takes half the time and half the balloons! haha.
A crescent shape is less traditional than a full arch, a little more on-trend for 2022, looks great over a chair (for the guest of honor) or tucked on one end of the snacks table…
You can get this rose gold balloon crescent kit with confetti balloons (below) on Amazon here – it’s beautiful!
Look at this fabulous green with silver and white balloon crescent – wouldn’t this be an amazing for a balloons idea for a baby boy shower? It would also make a gorgeous photo backdrop.
When it comes to balloon arches, your imagination is really only limited the number of balloons you can afford (and want to blow up).
Go for lots of colors, lots of sizes – and don’t be afraid to let it “grow” and change as you build!
Balloon Wall
A Balloon wall is as impressive as an arch if it done correctly (REALLY load those balloons on there), so it can make a stunning backdrop and main attraction – but it takes a bit less artistic flair.
(It can also take more balloons, so less artistic flair does not necessarily = cheaper. Just something to note when considering baby shower balloon ideas! lol.)
(Just make sure you let mom know what color your balloons will be, so she can choose a dress in a color that looks cute and doesn’t clash with the décor!)
“Starry Night” Balloon Display
I love the idea of a “sleeping baby” or maybe “fairy tail” themed shower, with starry night displays made from balloons.
This display with it’s pink stars and silver accents would be perfect for a little girl shower – or even a gender neutral shower. I prefer a silver and darker blue color scheme for a boy shower… and I would probably add a gold star or two to that one as well!
Balloon Garland
A little easier to make than an arch or a crescent, a garland is generally just across the top of your backdrop and doesn’t come all the way down to the floor.
A lot of these baby shower balloons ideas look overwhelming and time consuming, but you can make a balloon garland/ arch/ crescent the night before, or even two days before the event!
This gorgeous green and gold balloon garland was photographed three days after it was created – and it still looks awesome.
Teddy Bear Balloon Mosaic
Balloon mosaics are often made as numbers (like a “16” at a 16th birthday party etc) but for a shower where there is no number, making a mosaic that matches your theme is SO MUCH FUN – and such a unique idea to celebrate the new baby!
This adorable teddy bear balloon mosaic from Craft and Sparkle looks SO professional but would be quite easy to make from cardstock – with a little planning.
Unicorn Balloon Mosaic
Another example to show you that you can create a mosaic for almost ANY theme!
This unicorn is super creative with the “curly hair” on it’s mane.
Imagine – how easy would it be to build a rubber duckie or a tug boat?
We have a whole list of unicorn baby shower ideas!
Teddy Bear Holding a Bunch of Balloons
Teddy bears holding bunches of balloons are perfect baby shower décor!
You could have teeny tiny bears holding balloons as center pieces on the guest tables, or huge chair-sized bears holding massive bunches of balloons as a shower-stopper focus piece.
Hot air “Balloons” Balloon
Perfect for a hot air balloon baby shower theme!
It’s easy to make an adorable hot air balloon from balloons and a basket – you can make a large one to hold gifts (as a center feature of the decor) or a smaller one sitting on the table to hold favors, cards, snacks etc.
This is easier with balloons filled with helium, but you can do it with balloons supported by wire as well.
We generally think of a hot air balloon as traditional – with the round balloon on top, but I also love this one with the more cloud like shape on top!
You can create so many different vibes just by changing up the color and shape of the balloons you use for your balloon!
Eiffel Tower Balloon Tower
Parisian themed baby shower anyone?
Oh my word, as far as baby shower decorations go, this Eiffel Tower statue made of balloons would be PERFECT!
Treat it like a Christmas tree and set the gifts underneath LOL.
Balloon Garland Cake Topper
This itty-bitty balloon cake topper uses REAL BALLOONS – and I have maybe never seen anything this balloon cite in my life!
You could add this to any baby shower cake!
Add Tassels to Balloons
Adding tassels to the strings of a balloon really jazzes it up, and creates dimension below the balloons (in a space that’s often sort of void of anything).
You can get away with using far fewer balloons if the balloons are dressed up!
Glitter Balloons
Another quick and easy way to dress up balloons is to use glitter balloons. If you can’t find balloons that are already glittery, you can get clear ones and put confetti or glitter (or feathers) inside them!
Try Pastel Balloons with Silver Accents
I loved the color combo of these pastel balloons with silver metallic balloons – this would be the perfect gender neutral shower décor! Here they’ve created just a small balloon crescent around the snacks table (which is a baby carriage) and the effect is awesome!
Balloon Flowers
These are perfect for an outdoor/ spring/ summer baby shower, and they can be made pretty quickly – and you don’t have to be a talented balloon artist to create them!
Use long skinny “balloon animal” type balloons for the stems (in green) and make the “petals” out of whatever color matches your color scheme.
Baby Shower Balloons Idea: Cute Balloon Animal Statues
I honestly don’t know HOW hard it is to make balloon animals, but this is something you can practice and learn , or just hire someone to make for you.
This would be such a fun baby shower balloons idea especially if there will be children in attendance, because at the end of the party you can send one home with each kid – of give them away as baby shower shower prizes, like trophies haha!
Make Balloon Centerpieces
Far cheaper than fresh flowers (unless you cut them from your garden), balloons can make unique vase-stuffers for the cake table or even guest tables (use smaller balloons so guests can see over them easily).
Butterfly Balloons
Just like flowers, these gorgeous butterfly balloons are perfect for a butterfly themed shower, or a spring/ outdoor shower!
And of course, “BABY” Balloons
Balloons that spell out the word “baby” are probably the most quintessential baby shower balloons décor around.
You can also get balloon letters that spell out the baby’s name, if you know it!
You can order these on Amazon, or get them from the local gift shop. Hang them under a balloon arch as a finishing touch, or even dip them in glitter to dress them up!
Final tips for baby shower decoration ideas with balloons:
Don’t let yourself get stuck in the idea that a baby girl shower needs to be only shades of pink – throw some teal or silver in too! And same with a baby boy shower – adding yellow or pale green to shade of blue looks gorgeous. Don’t get too hung-up on the “traditional” color combinations!
Consider throwing in some ombre balloons, foil balloons or sprinkle balloons – just a couple of them makes a huge difference. I also love the idea of little balloons tucked inside big clear balloons (like in the image below).
Adding string lights or fresh flowers tucked into your balloons can also be really beautiful:
I hope this helped you come up with loads of great baby shower balloon ideas!
